How did you discover BJDs (SDs, Delf, Ai whatever types you collect)?
I knew about them some years ago at Tokyo, walking trough Shinjuku where I saw a Volks store. Unfortunately didn't have enough money to buy one at that moment. Much later I discovered Pitts, from DOD, and couldn't resist getting her. She's got a unique look!
What got you started in making clothing for them?
I always liked to sew, as a child I sewed for my Barbies, Sindy and Chabel (the Spanish Licca). In fact I studied fashion design from that experience. So when I met bjds it was like a new place to explore and experiment with a new and different look.
When did you first start selling your clothing?
Approximately a year and a half ago, I remember that I added some photos of my bjds wearing dresses I made in the DoA forum's gallery and people started to ask if I accepted commissions.
What inspired your business name?
It's just the name of my first bjd and the French word "atelier", which means something like sewing studio or workspace where clothes are handmade with lots of love.
Did you encounter any obstacles before selling/marketing your clothes?
Everything has gone smooth since the beginning and my customers have always been very kind. A real obstacle is finding certain kinds of fabrics which are difficult to find where I live.
What is your favorite fabric/material to work with?
Japanese fabrics prints, crepes, chirimen, silk… everything?!
What is your least favorite fabric/material to work with?
It has to be leather. My sewing machine isn't able to sew it. I also have problems with other thick fabrics as it is hard to work with such small sizes.
What has been the most rewarding part of making clothes?
When I finish a piece that seems to be very hard to make and have a satisfied customer. I enjoy the photos people take with my clothes, getting to know more about bjds and all the different sizes. Also it makes me happy to find shoes that match every dress as I really love bjd shoes *^^*
What is the most difficult part of making clothes for your dolls?
Making seams so small that doesn't look thick and making the clothes fit perfectly to the bodies.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
Japanese magazines, the net, inspiration from the fabrics. I think the trend comes from Japanese market, it's alive and always changing.
What has been your favorite outfit/piece so far and why is it your favorite?
The bunka bunnies series. Saw a Blythe wearing one and though it was very funny and that it would look very original on bjds. Later get to know it was a traditional Japanese doll cloth.
Where do you usually sell your clothing?
I typically sell them at "Den of Angels" forums but I'm going to test ebay to see how it works.
Are there any tips or advice for novice "seamstresses" you'd like to share?
Take your time making the clothes, enjoy the work and that will be noticed in the final result.
Who is your favorite model?
The mini size girls wearing Goth Loli clothes are huggable.
Who is your "dream doll"?
Unoa Lusis, I have been dreaming of her since the first time I saw her and after a year and a half I got her at last.
Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself, your dolls or your clothing?
I love sewing for bjds and never thought I would be sewing again until I met them. Got to thank them for that. I'm trying to improve on every new thing I make and would like to try every style. Also I would like to get access to more doll size supplies and get every bjd size doll in the market, with time or if I win the Lotto xD
