In the Spotlight - Nemesis

Isn't she gorgeous? The sexy Nemesis graces our cover and is the Spotlight starlet this month. Nemesis resides with Denise of Dark Flora. We hope you enjoy learning more about this mysterious girl… how can you not be mesmerized?!

I first came across Asian ball-jointed dolls on eBay. I collect other types of dolls (mini sculpted babies and Kish dolls) and have also created reborn baby dolls in the past so I'm always browsing eBay for dolls & "doll stuff". On occasion, I would see the words "also fits super dollfie" particularly in doll eye & the smaller wig auctions. My curiosity got the better of me one day so I typed "dollfie" into eBay's search engine...... WOW!! My jaw hit the keyboard and I was hooked - hard & fast!

I then googled "dollfie" and the whole BJD world opened up to me. I found Den of Angels, registered as a member and got lost there every night after the kids went to sleep. I read everything I possibly could and spent hours admiring all of the incredible beauties that can be found there. I liked the atmosphere immediately - so many talented, creative people from all over the world sharing their love of these fabulous resin creatures. Beautiful dolls, beautiful photos and websites....how could one NOT fall in love?!

I think the incredible detail of the sculpts themselves and customization options for these beauties is what got me in the beginning. I love being able to bring them to life with paint, clothing, eyes and wigs. I hadn't felt this excited about any other type of doll - ever. My first girl was Thora, a Cerberus Project "Lishe" from Luts and the only one of my girls to still have her default face-up, that will be changing soon. Little Ivy, a Custom House Petite Ai "Uriel" arrived within days of Thora. After mother & daughter settled in, Selene arrived. She's a CP Angel Elf "Soo" head on a Volks Dollfie Dream body and was my first "face-up". I love all of my girls but my dream doll was yet to come.....

Nemesis, a Volks Super-Dollfie Pureskin "Sara" (one of the four sisters), is the fourth and favorite addition to my family of beautiful girls. I first took notice of that particular face mold in a photo advertising a Leeke World wig. I knew I HAD to have this girl! I also knew exactly what I would do to her as far as a customized face-up. I wanted a "soft-goth" look for her to match the personality I hoped she would have, tough with a soft heart. I ordered her on Valentines Day and waited...and waited. There was a mix-up with her order so I waited some more!! She finally arrived on April 3rd. I'm always excited when a new doll arrives but Nemesis' arrival was different....I was ecstatic when I saw that big box!

Nemesis is the only doll I had a hard time naming. All of my other girls had names already when they arrived...I just couldn't decide on a name for this beauty. I like using the names of goddesses for my dolls and because of a situation I was going through when she arrived, I finally decided on "Nemesis" which means "retribution or righteous anger" in Greek. Nemesis was the Greek goddess of vengeance and justice. It was an absolute perfect fit for her as her personality was just what I had hoped it would be....I knew it from the moment I opened her box and she was set free.

She wasn't in the house for 1/2 an hour when I had her default face-up stripped away...it was far too ordinary for this girl! I wanted to give her the look she needed as soon as possible! She had to be a little "dark & seductive" to match her personality. After a few hours of shading, painting & spraying....my Nemesis was "born". Her coloring was perfect for the Eye Candy eyes I had purchased for her while I was anticipating her arrival. Her eyes have shades of blue, lavender & yellow surrounding them and her lips are a bit of a desaturated plum. I think I achieved exactly what I had pictured in my mind for "the girl I had to have" and she was quite pleased too. You can see her before and after pictures on my website.

Nemesis is a tough cookie. She doesn't take any bull from anyone & she's definitely not afraid to speak her mind. On the other hand, she's also a very loyal and kind soul, always doing for others and always taking up for the underdog. She has a quick wit and a contagious laugh and can be quite sarcastic at times. She can also be a bit of an exhibitionist - we're trying to tame that. She's quite modest for a girl so beautiful. She can never decide on a hair color...good thing the girls are well stocked with wigs. She prefers to dress casual in jeans & the likes. She loves classic & hard rock-n-roll (Lynryd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin & Metallica being among her many faves), she favors the colors black & white and a dark-haired boy will always turn her head....she's been hinting for a boy to join the family, and as soon as I'm able to, I'll be looking for the perfect male companion for her. A girl like Nemesis will always be happier with love in her life. She's the "middle sister" in my family of girls (not counting Ivy, "the baby girl" at only 6). She's 23, but is pretty wise for her young age. She gets along well with her sisters, family is important to her. She loves the cool weather, autumn is her favorite season.

I'm looking forward to my "family" getting bigger over time. I think "El" is next on my list...these girls need a man around the house! I can't imagine ever tiring of my BJD's. I love everything about them...now if I could just remember where I put those money tree seeds I'd be all set!

We'd like to thank Denise and Nemesis for taking the time to be In the Spotlight. Please visit them both at Dark Flora or on DoA where Denise is known as Waterlily.

Is one of your dolls just dying for more attention? Have a shrinking violet you'd love to show off? Perhaps they'd like to be featured in our Spotlight. Just email us if you're interested in making a submission. spotlight@dollicieux.com
