| In the Spotlight - Roberta |
When I first discovered BJDs I was shocked at the price (as many are.)
However once I saw the price of the limited dolls I was completely
horrified. I couldn't believe how expensive they were. So I told
myself "You don't like limiteds and you will never purchase one."
Time went on and I bought standard release dolls with 'reasonable'
price tags.
Unfortunately for my savings I kept seeing pictures of Anais on Den of Angels and on Yahoo! Japan. So many Japanese doll couturiers use Anais for their models and I just kept falling more and more in love with her. So finally, I bid on an Anais on Yahoo! Japan and I won her. I was so excited but so scared because she cost so much.
The Anais I won was someone's second hand doll that they were selling along with all the accessories they had bought for her. She also didn't have the default Anais face-up, which was fine by me because I planned on re-painting her myself.
Eventually Anais arrived and I ripped the big box open. I loved her face-up so much! It looked much better in person than it did in the auction images. I lucked out. I got a beautiful doll and lots of fun accessories too.
Anais quickly transformed into Roberta, a mature and mischievous lolita girl.
Roberta's Bio:
Name: Roberta (Mary Claire) Crawford
Age: 21
Hair: Happy Doll HW-37 #12 (brown)
Eyes: 16mm unknown Light Blue-Green
Blood Type: B
Sign: Aries
Sister: Lillian Crawford (Mini Super Dollfie Phillis)
Roberta is charming, sophisticated, manipulative and full of deception. She loves to play the lolita girl. Many people think she's still in junior high, which she delights in. She is frivolous and will sacrifice food for fashion or other things that she wants.
Roberta is studious and is enrolled in the prestigious Academe du Mervillias University double majoring in Violin and Physics. She is top of her class in violin. She does struggle a bit with Physics, but she still achieves top marks. She is in her second year.
Roberta is not afraid to use her sexuality to get what she wants. She
delights in making fools out of older men who pay her interest. She
leads them astray with her coquettish behaviour, persuading them to
buy her expensive things. She has little respect for most people,
especially men. There are only a handful of people that she deems
good enough to actually respect. She has no respect for authority,
and hates most teachers/people that think they have power over her.
Basically, Roberta is a snob.
Her parents died when she was 15 and she lives with Lillian, her
little sister, in their large manor. Her parents were very wealthy,
and people assume that she still is living well after their death.
However she secretly struggles to maintain the appearance of wealth,
after being left with a diminutive inheritance.
Roberta likes Lolita fashion: pretty dresses, ribbons, frills, cute shoes, mary-janes , Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Angelic Pretty, and Vivienne Westwood. She also likes the French language, as well as hentai dating sims. Roberta is extremely passionate about the violin and tutors students that she deems 'worthy.' Roberta is also secretly in love with someone, but she won't say who that person is.
....
It's bad to play favourites, and I do love all of my dolls intensely.
However, I find myself drawn to Roberta the most. I love styling her
and looking at her. I really love taking pictures of her. She can
look so diverse in each shoot I do with her. Out of all my dolls I
think Roberta stands alone because she is my muse. She inspires me
and forces me to be more creative. She has a very versatile face and
looks good doing 'artsy' photo shoots.
I love ball joint dolls so much because they are the perfect outlet for many of my interests. I love sewing, and painting. But most of all I love taking pictures of my dolls. They are the perfect subjects. They don't blink or flinch, they aren't self-conscious, and they are beautiful to begin with. I like playing with the camera to see what I can come up with. I'm still very much a photography amateur, but I think that I am getting better - and Roberta is helping me achieve that.
Although Roberta cost me so much, I don't regret my decision to buy her at all. I was very worried about getting a limited, but in the end it was totally worth it. Anais is the perfect doll for me. I love Roberta, even if she is a brat.
